Mauser Type B sporter in 8x60S Mauser A work in progress This rifle belongs to my friend Bob. The rifle started out as a worn-out (and butchered by someone) Oberndorf Mauser Type B sporter in 8x60 Mauser (.318") that Bob purchased for a very reasonable price. The bottom metal shown is the bottom metal that came with the rifle. It's probably military 98k bottom metal. Replacement bottom metal has not been purchased yet but will be soon. It also had what appeared to be a military bolt with serial numbers that did not match the action. A new replacement, sporter-style bolt handle from the Fred Wells shop has been attached to the bolt. The original barrel was shot-out and very pitted with very little remaining rifling. A new barrel from Dan Pedersen's shop chambered in 8x60S Mauser (.323") has been installed. The contours of the new barrel exactly match those of the original barrel. The original sights and barrel band have been installed on the new barrel. The new, replacement stock is Claro walnut. The rifle still looks a little rough in these photos but that will be corrected! - Todd |
