My friend Bob called me
on December 10, 2008 and told me that he had purchased a very special
and historic
rifle. He bought Osa Johnson's
Oberndorf Mauser Type
A rifle in 9.3x62! The rifle was shipped from the seller to
Lone
Star Armory in order to handle the ownership transfer to Bob. Here's the seller's description
of the rifle:

Title: Osa Johnson's 9.3X62 Type A Mauser Description:
This is a
highly desirable Oberndorf Mauser Type A in 9.3x62 owned by the
famous explorer and film maker, Osa Johnson. Together with her husband
Martin Johnson, they pretty much invented the wildlife documentary. Her
book, I Married Adventure,
was made into a movie in 1940 starring
Mrs. Johnson as herself. Google Osa Johnson to learn more about her
life and
the museum devoted to her exploits. The rifle is marked and inlaid in
platinum on
the
barrel, "Specially made for Chas. A. Heyer & Co., Nairobi".
It
comes with letter from the auction house that handled her estate at the
time
of her
death in 1953, identifying this rifle by make, caliber, and serial
number. To learn more about Osa Johnson, visit the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum web site at: www.safarimuseum.com |
